Australian Homelessness Infographics
Developed a series of infographics for ABC Fact Check to communicate current statistics about Homelessness in Australia. On census, 116,427 Australians were homeless, a 14% increase from the 2011 census. Nearly half (44%) were residing in severely crowded dwellings, with about 1 in 5 in supported accommodation, 15% staying in boarding houses, 15% staying with other households and about 7% in improvised dwellings or sleeping rough.
ABC Fact Check determines the accuracy of claims by politicians, public figures, advocacy groups and institutions engaged in public debate. It is a partnership between RMIT University and the ABC, combining academic excellence and the best of Australian journalism to inform the public through an independent non-partisan voice. It is funded jointly by RMIT University and the ABC.
The following infographics will include the general statistics and mainly focused on the term "Severely" Crowded Dwellings. The statistics are taken from official Excel census documents provided by ABC Fact Check.
